The Saint-Martin Canal
Partant de la place de la République, nous évoquerons ce 19ème siècle laborieux entre fumées d’usine et parfum de révolte. Nous rencontrerons les obscurs et les humbles, lavandières, artistes, mariniers, ouvriers ou brigands qui peuplaient autrefois ce quartier agité de la basse courtille, mieux connu sous le nom de Belleville. Nous nous promènerons le long du Saint-Martin, éclairant les deux siècles d’histoires de cette voie d’eau impériale, autrefois colonne vertébrale du Paris populaire et oublié, jusqu’à sa récente reconversion en monument de poésie urbaine attirant les bobos du monde entier.
